Regional Manager – Building Materials OperationsLead Multiple Locations. Drive Performance. Build the Region.
Our client is seeking an experienced Regional Manager to take ownership of operations across multiple building materials and lumberyard locations in one of the Rocky Mountain states. This is a true multi-location leadership role for someone who understands that strong regional performance comes from having the right people, processes, inventory, customer service, and accountability in place at every location.
The Regional Manager will be responsible for the overall operational performance of the region, working closely with location managers to establish expectations, improve execution, develop teams, control costs, and drive profitable growth. This person will spend significant time in the field and must be comfortable leading through others while maintaining a strong understanding of what is happening at each location.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead Multiple Locations: Provide operational leadership and oversight for multiple lumberyards/building material locations, ensuring each location meets company expectations for sales, service, profitability, safety, and operational execution.
- Hold Leaders Accountable: Direct, coach, and develop location managers while establishing clear performance expectations, goals, and accountability throughout the region.
- Drive Operational Performance: Monitor key performance indicators, identify underperforming areas, and implement action plans to improve productivity, profitability, customer service, and overall branch performance.
- Own Regional Financial Performance: Partner with leadership on budgets, forecasting, P&L performance, labor costs, expenses, margins, and other financial metrics that impact the region.
- Optimize Inventory & Purchasing: Oversee inventory management, purchasing practices, product availability, turns, and working capital across locations while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Develop the Team: Recruit, train, coach, and retain strong managers and employees. Build a leadership pipeline that supports the long-term growth of the region.
- Improve Processes: Establish consistency across locations by implementing and enforcing best practices for yard operations, delivery, inventory, customer service, safety, and administrative processes.
- Support Sales & Customer Growth: Work closely with sales leadership and branch teams to strengthen customer relationships, identify opportunities, improve service levels, and grow market share.
- Manage Vendor & Supplier Relationships: Help oversee key supplier relationships, purchasing strategies, product availability, and supply chain issues affecting the region.
- Maintain Safety & Compliance: Ensure all locations operate safely and in accordance with company policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Be Visible in the Field: Regularly travel between locations, work directly with branch leadership, identify operational issues, and ensure company standards are being consistently executed.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Look beyond day-to-day operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, increase productivity, and strengthen the overall performance of the region.

- Strong understanding of lumberyard and building materials operations, including inventory, purchasing, delivery, sales support, and customer service.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn performance data into actionable improvements.
- A track record of improving operational performance and holding teams accountable to measurable goals.
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly between multiple locations.
