Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Steel Quality Inspector to join our team. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that all fabricated steel products meet internal standards and project specifications prior to delivery and installation.
Ideal candidates will have 2+ years of inspection experience or 5+ years of hands-on welding experience, with a solid background in both structural steel and miscellaneous metals. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson looking to transition into or grow within the quality assurance field.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform visual inspections of welded and fabricated steel components.
Verify conformance to drawings, specifications, codes, and standards (AISC, AWS D1.1, etc.).
Identify and document non-conformances and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Collaborate with welders, fitters, and shop supervisors to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Maintain accurate inspection reports, records, and documentation.
Support internal audits and assist in maintaining quality control systems.
Work closely with project management and QA/QC team to support delivery of compliant steel packages.
Willingness to pursue Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification within a designated timeframe (company-supported).
Requirements:
2+ years of structural steel/misc. metals inspection experience or 5+ years of hands-on welding/fabrication experience in a structural steel environment.
Strong understanding of AWS D1.1, AISC standards, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
High attention to detail and a proactive mindset toward quality.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be dependable, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
CWI certification is not required but must be willing to obtain (company will support training/certification process).
Compensation & Benefits:
Base salary: $70,000–$85,000 (commensurate with experience)
