A leading law firm in Pittsburgh is seeking a mid- to senior-level Patent Associate Attorney with a strong technical background in computer science or electrical engineering to join its high-performing Intellectual Property team. What You’ll Do
Interview inventors and draft high-quality U.S. and international patent applications
Manage all stages of patent prosecution, including U.S. and foreign filings, office actions, and ex parte appeals
Conduct validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses; prepare detailed legal opinions
Advise clients on patent, trademark, copyright, and basic licensing matters
Gain hands-on exposure to licensing and IP litigation matters
Collaborate with partners, associates, inventors, and technical specialists
Monitor IP law developments and contribute to internal knowledge initiatives
Support strategic patent portfolio development and invention harvesting
Review technical disclosures and coordinate with foreign associates
Maintain accurate records, workflows, and deadline compliance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field
USPTO registration required
Prior patent drafting and prosecution experience (law firm or in-house) strongly preferred
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple matters independently and meet strict deadlines
Technical experience with computer circuits, multiprocessor design, or telecommunications is highly desirable
