Job Description

Structural Steel Estimator:

The Estimator is responsible for the creation of project budgets and estimates produced for large scale structural steel projects. The ideal candidate should have strong technical capability, the ability to learn quickly, and/or practical experience with complex structural steel projects. Reporting directly to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator collaborates with the Estimating team to implement the companies estimating procedures, processes, and techniques to ensure the preparation of accurate and competitive proposals for all project estimates ranging from fully defined (conventional Design-Bid-Build Projects) to conceptual (alternative procurement such as Design-Build/Assist Projects).

The Company: 

My client is a multiple time AISC award winning, privately-held and family owned structural steel fabricator. Having been in business for over 50 years they are responsible for some of the most recognizable structures along the entire east coast.

Estimating Duties:

  • Prepare and assist with conceptual budgets based on minimal information $/SF, $/Ton, etc.
  • Review and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, scope, schedule, etc. to assure complete scope/price.
  • Perform material takeoff accurately applying material, labor, and finish codes.
  • Solicit quotes, review and descope specialty contractor bids including detailing, freight, joists, metal deck, miscellaneous metals, grating, etc.
  • Identify potential risks, inconsistencies, or design challenges in project plans and documents.
  • Develop cost recap summarizing all costs associated with bid.
  • Work with the Sales team in preparation of professional/complete bid proposals including clarifications, exclusions, etc.
  • Attend Kick-off meeting to facilitate a smooth and uninterrupted transition of project from Sales to Operations

Qualifications: Knowledge, skill, and ability

  • Proficient in all computer software programs used in estimating with particular emphasis on BlueBeam, Tekla Power Fab Suite, and Tekla Models.
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products with particular emphasis on Excel, Teams, and Word.
  • Must be able to thrive under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Compensation:

  • $65,000-100,000 depending on experience
