Job Description

Labor and Employment Litigation Associate: Run Your Own Employment Cases, Hybrid in New York City

Want to own your employment litigation docket instead of just supporting it? Our client is seeking a Labor and Employment Litigation Associate with 4+ years of employment litigation experience to join its New York City team, handling cases independently from the first filing to final resolution.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week in the office.

What You'll Do

  • Run every stage of your employment litigation matters on your own, from the start of a case to its resolution
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memos, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings
  • Take and defend depositions, and represent clients in mediations, settlement talks and other forms of dispute resolution
  • Appear and advocate in court, at hearings, arbitrations and settlement conferences, and at trial
  • Handle claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations and wrongful termination, along with restrictive covenant disputes and other employment matters
  • Counsel employers on workplace issues, employment law compliance, personnel decisions and risk management
  • Oversee discovery, motion practice, investigations and deadlines in state and federal courts
  • Serve as a direct point of contact for clients, giving strategic advice and building lasting relationships
  • Partner with fellow attorneys to shape litigation strategy and win strong results

What We're Looking For

  • At least 4 years of employment litigation experience
  • Active New York Bar admission in good standing (required)
  • Experience litigating in both state and federal court
  • A track record of drafting and arguing motions, taking depositions, and representing clients in mediations and other proceedings
  • Excellent writing, analytical, negotiation and communication skills
  • The ability to manage a busy caseload on your own and juggle competing deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • Sharp attention to detail and a strong commitment to client service

Nice to Have

  • Litigation experience with discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage and hour claims
  • Federal and state wage and hour matters, including collective and class actions
  • Traditional labor and employment law work
  • Investigations before the U.S. Department of Labor, the New York State Department of Labor, the EEOC, and state and local human rights agencies
  • Experience advising employers on workplace policies, compliance and personnel management

Compensation

  • Base salary of $150,000 to $185,000
  • Hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in office
