Job Title: Civil Defense Litigation Associate

Location: Norfolk, Virginia

About the Opportunity A highly respected and long-standing Virginia law firm is seeking a Civil Defense Litigation Associate with 2–3 years of experience to join its litigation team in the Norfolk office. This role offers the chance to work on complex matters, actively participate in trials, and grow within a supportive and well-established practice.

Position Overview The ideal candidate will have strong litigation skills, a creative problem-solving mindset, and the confidence to interact directly with clients. This is a fully in-office position with excellent professional growth potential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of civil defense litigation, from pleadings and discovery through trial

  • Represent clients in state courts with confidence and professionalism

  • Collaborate with colleagues while maintaining the ability to work independently

  • Develop case strategies and think creatively to achieve client goals

  • Prior experience or knowledge of workers’ compensation law strongly preferred

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Virginia Bar, or willingness to obtain promptly

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of civil litigation experience

  • Strong research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills

  • Ability to manage multiple cases while meeting deadlines
