Estimating Manager – Structural Steel Construction
Job Summary:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Estimating Manager to lead and oversee the estimating process for complex structural steel erection and heavy equipment lifting/installation projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in full-cycle estimating—from initial inquiry through to bid submission—within the structural steel construction industry. This role requires someone with a keen eye for detail, the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously, and a deep understanding of project scope, material costs, and labor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the entire estimating process for structural steel erection and heavy equipment lifting/installation projects.
- Review and analyze project specifications, drawings, and contracts to prepare accurate and competitive bids.
- Develop detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to gather necessary information for estimates and ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Work with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate quotes and pricing for materials, equipment, and services.
- Review and incorporate all potential risks, including safety concerns, site conditions, and logistical challenges, into estimates.
- Develop bid proposals that include detailed breakdowns of costs, schedules, and any contingencies.
- Present completed estimates and proposals to senior management and clients, providing clarification and answering any questions.
- Track and update the database of historical cost data for future use in estimating and project planning.
- Mentor and guide junior estimators in the department, helping to develop their skills and ensure consistent quality and accuracy in all estimates.
- Maintain and update knowledge of industry trends, construction methods, materials, and cost factors to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date estimates.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in estimating for structural steel erection and heavy equipment lifting/installation projects.
- Proven track record of managing full-cycle estimates from start to finish, including material take-offs, labor estimation, and cost analysis.
- Strong understanding of structural steel construction methods, heavy lifting, and installation processes.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Tekla, Bluebeam, HCSS are highly preferred
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external vendors/subcontractors.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
