Job Summary:  The Bankruptcy Paralegal will work with and provide support to the attorneys representing creditors (primarily in Chapter 7 and 13), in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and other jurisdictions. The Bankruptcy Paralegal will draft legal documents; prepare daily docket paper flow; file documents with the bankruptcy courts through Pacer, monitor statutory and other important deadlines; maintain critical dates calendars and coordinate schedules; prepare hearing and trial materials, including hearing agendas and binders; and communicate with other parties in interest.

Essential Duties

Perform a variety of paralegal support assignments relating to bankruptcy cases require significant specialized knowledge in bankruptcy law.

  • Provide legal assistance and technical work requiring specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices in connection with Chapters 7, 11, and 13 cases.
  • Support assignments of this nature generally involve the form, content, and processing of legal documents and the procedures involved in storing and retrieving case information.
  • Provide trial and deposition support to include the organizing and creation of exhibits.
  • Verify citations and legal reference. Format, edit, and proofread documents.
  • Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiate action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared.
  • Correspond regularly with clients on status of cases and filings
  • Draft simple motions and complaints objecting to discharge.
  • Perform administrative duties supporting attorneys and auditors by maintaining and organizing multiple case-management systems.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Familiarity with local rules of various bankruptcy courts
  • Proficient in e-filing using CM/ECF in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet overlapping deadlines and deal with interruptions and time constraints
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate and work individually or with a team on multiple cases concurrently

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree and at least three years of a bankruptcy paralegal experience
  • Flexibility and availability for overtime
