Cowboy – Cattle Operations

About the Opportunity

A well-established cattle operation is seeking an experienced Cowboy to assist with the day-to-day management of a 250–300 head cow-calf operation across approximately 5,000–6,000 acres.

This is a hands-on ranch position for someone who enjoys working cattle, riding horseback, and taking pride in the day-to-day care and operation of a working cattle ranch. Families are welcome, and housing is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cattle care, herd health, nutrition, and management
  • Sort, move, and work cattle throughout the year, primarily on horseback
  • Assist with spring calving, calf movement, and fall weaning
  • Grazing, hay production, and feeding
  • Assist with breeding, vaccinations, and treatments
  • Maintain fences, facilities, water systems, and ranch infrastructure
  • Operate and maintain ranch equipment, ATV/four-wheeler, and pickup
  • Work closely with the owner on cattle and ranch operations

Qualifications

Strong horseback riding and cattle-working experience is required. Most cattle work is done on horseback.

  • Several years of hands-on cattle and ranch experience
  • Cow-calf operation experience
  • Strong knowledge of cattle health and management
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
  • Strong ranch maintenance and equipment skills
  • Reliable, hardworking, and willing to work as part of a team

Horse & Hay Operation

The ranch produces approximately 1,000 round bales annually. Candidates may bring their own horses, with feed provided and access to prairie pasture, or use young horses already on the ranch.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $70,000–$85,000/year, depending on experience
  • Housing provided – approximately 3,000 sq. ft. house
  • Pickup provided
  • Significant independence and responsibility
