The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. This role coordinates subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and field staff while maintaining compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
Position SummaryKey Responsibilities
Supervise daily on-site construction activities.
Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, labor, and materials.
Ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, and building codes.
Monitor project progress and adjust schedules as needed.
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce all OSHA and company safety standards.
Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Maintain a clean and organized job site.
Communication & Coordination
Serve as the primary on-site contact for subcontractors and vendors.
Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding progress, issues, and schedule updates.
Attend project meetings with clients, architects, and engineers as required.
Resolve conflicts or field issues in a timely and professional manner.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily reports, logs, and job site records.
Review and verify subcontractor work for accuracy and completion.
Track material deliveries and equipment usage.
Assist in reviewing change orders and RFIs (Requests for Information).
Quality Control
Ensure workmanship meets company and industry standards.
Identify and correct deficiencies promptly.
Coordinate inspections and approvals.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
5+ years of construction experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office.
OSHA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to navigate active construction sites safely.
