Trusts & Estates Associate – Premier Boutique Private Client Practice (Chicago, IL | Hybrid)

 

Law firm is seeking a highly skilled Trusts & Estates Associate to join its expanding team.

This is a rare opportunity to join a deeply respected, high-end practice with complex work, direct client exposure, and significant long-term growth potential.

About the Role

The firm is seeking an experienced, motivated attorney with strong technical skills in trusts & estates, estate tax planning, and wealth-transfer strategies. The ideal candidate brings exceptional drafting ability, advanced analytical skills, and the confidence to work directly with sophisticated clients.

Prior law firm experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle complex and high-net-worth estate, tax, wealth-transfer, and business-succession planning

  • Draft sophisticated estate planning instruments, including irrevocable trusts, income/estate tax planning documents, and business-planning documents

  • Advise fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trust and estate administration

  • Work with pass-through entities (LLCs, LPs) and charitable planning structures

  • Maintain organized client files and deliver work product with exceptional attention to detail

  • Participate in in-person and virtual client meetings

  • Manage multiple high-level projects in a fast-paced boutique environment

Required Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school

  • 4–7 years of trusts & estates experience in a law firm or comparable setting

  • Strong experience with estate and gift tax planning

  • Admission to the Illinois Bar

  • Exceptional drafting, writing, research, and analytical skills

  • Highly professional, detail-oriented, and capable of independent work

  • Strong communication and client-relationship abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak periods

  • LL.M. in Tax, CPA, MBA, or similar credentials are a plus

  •
