Commercial Construction Industry - Accountant 

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant to lead and manage the accounting function for a growing commercial construction company. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and leading an accounting team in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings deep construction accounting experience, strong leadership capability, and advanced proficiency in Foundation Software and Excel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and professional development

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, job costing, and month-end/year-end close

  • Manage and maintain Foundation Software, ensuring proper setup, job cost integrity, and reporting accuracy

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • Ensure accurate job cost accounting, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion reporting, and cost-to-complete forecasts

  • Oversee cash flow management, billing, collections, and vendor payments

  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures

  • Coordinate with external CPAs on audits, reviews, and tax filings

  • Support project managers with financial reporting, budget analysis, and variance explanations

  • Leverage advanced Excel skills to build and maintain financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and construction industry best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus)

  • 5+ years of accounting experience in the commercial construction industry

  • Hands-on experience with Foundation Software required

  • Proven experience leading or supervising an accounting team

  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing methods

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, reporting automation)

  • Enterprise-level accounting experience preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
