Project Accountant – Commercial General Contractor
About the company
Our client is a well-established commercial general contractor in metro Atlanta. They build ground-up and renovation projects. They're adding a Project Accountant to support a growing project backlog.
What you'll do
- Manage project-level accounting for a portfolio of active commercial construction jobs
- Prepare and submit monthly pay applications (AIA G702/G703) and track retainage
- Process subcontractor and vendor invoices and verify them against contracts and change orders
- Collect and track lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and subcontractor compliance documents
- Maintain job cost reports and reconcile committed costs, budgets, and change orders
- Partner with project managers on cost-to-complete forecasts and WIP reporting
- Support month-end close, account reconciliations, and audit requests
- Help with project setup and closeout in the accounting system
What you bring
- 2–5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or general contracting
- Working knowledge of AIA billing, retainage, lien waivers, and job costing
- Experience with construction accounting software
- Strong Excel skills and close attention to detail
- Clear communication with project managers, subcontractors, and owners
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
