Estimator / Preconstruction Specialist – General Contractor

Overview
A growing general contracting firm in Houston is seeking an experienced Estimator who thrives on numbers and wants to take an active role in preconstruction. This is more than a just an estimating role — you’ll help shape project scopes, budgets, and strategies while collaborating closely with project teams.
Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for commercial and residential construction projects
Participate in the full preconstruction process, including conceptual planning, budgeting, and value engineering
Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to review plans and specifications
Analyze material, labor, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive bids
Track and maintain estimates, RFPs, and proposals
Contribute to constructability reviews and preconstruction planning discussions
Support the development of scopes, schedules, and budgets for projects
Qualifications
7–10 years of construction estimating experience, preferably in commercial or high-end residential
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in estimating software
Hands-on experience with preconstruction, budgeting, and cost control
Ability to read plans and specifications independently
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Self-starter who enjoys both numbers and active project involvement
