CNC Lathe Machinist in Elmhurst

Job Snapshot

Job Description

NOT A BUTTON-PUSHING CNC JOB.

CNC Lathe Machinist

You see a print. You see the setup. You know what needs to happen.

We need a CNC Lathe Machinist who likes difficult work—the kind involving custom parts, tight tolerances, challenging setups, and real problem-solving.

This role is for the machinist who would rather make a complex, precision component than spend every shift running the same production part.

YOUR SHIFT, IN A FEW WORDS

Set it up. Dial it in. Measure it. Make it right.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

→ CNC horizontal-lathe setup and operation → Tooling selection, workholding, offsets, feeds, and speeds → Blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and tight tolerances → Basic program edits and on-the-fly machine adjustments → In-process and final inspection → Solving tooling, dimensional, and machining issues before they become scrap

THE WORK

Not high-volume. Not repetitive. Not “load, unload, repeat.”

You’ll machine precision steel and industrial-metal components in a low-volume, high-mix environment. Expect challenging custom work where your judgment and craftsmanship matter.

Experience with large shafts, gears, gearboxes, heavy industrial components, or job-shop machining is especially valuable.

YOU’LL PROBABLY FIT HERE IF…

  • You can set up and run CNC lathes without needing constant direction
  • You read blueprints like a road map
  • You understand GD&T and close-tolerance machining
  • You know how to use micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators
  • You are comfortable changing offsets, tooling, and cutting parameters
  • You take personal ownership of the finished part
  • You would rather solve a machining problem than work around it

THE BOTTOM LINE

This is a role for a skilled machinist—not an operator.
