Job Title: Project Manager – Steel

Job Summary:
The Project Manager – Steel will take full ownership of steel fabrication and installation projects, managing them from bid award through final execution. This role focuses on projects involving bridge components, highway signage, and similar structures, requiring seamless coordination between fabrication, installation, and client expectations. The Project Manager will serve as the primary client interface, ensuring successful delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while overseeing all aspects of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for projects upon bid award, developing detailed plans for fabrication and installation of bridge components, highway signage, and related steel structures.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources from start to completion, ensuring alignment with contract terms.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, providing regular updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring satisfaction throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with in-house fabrication teams to ensure timely production of steel components per design specifications.
  • Oversee on-site installation activities, managing field crews and subcontractors to meet safety, quality, and timeline requirements.
  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and contracts to guide execution and resolve discrepancies.
  • Procure materials, equipment, and services necessary for fabrication and installation phases.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and final closeout packages.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AASHTO, AISC) and applicable regulations for bridge and highway projects.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing steel fabrication and installation projects, ideally related to bridges, highway signage, or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes and field installation techniques for structural components.
  • Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Solid organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple stakeholders and project phases.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and quality control standards in steel construction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to handle project challenges.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of project management experience in steel fabrication or construction.
  • Familiarity with bridge component or highway signage projects.
  • Experience with estimating or bidding processes as a plus.
