Workers’ Compensation Litigation Attorney

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced, hands‑on Workers’ Compensation Litigation Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of litigation experience in workers’ comp cases, is familiar with Illinois workers’ compensation law, has strong courtroom and negotiation skills, and can manage a caseload with autonomy while collaborating with colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage workers’ compensation cases from intake through resolution (settlement, hearing, appeal).
  • Draft pleadings, motions, hearing briefs, discovery, and related legal documents.
  • Appear and advocate in hearings before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, conduct depositions, manage witnesses and evidence.
  • Evaluate and investigate third‑party claims arising from work injuries (where applicable).
  • Communicate directly with clients, medical providers, adjusters, and opposing counsel.
  • Develop case strategy and timelines, track deadlines, ensure compliance with procedural rules.
  • Mentor more junior attorneys / paralegals; contribute to firm knowledge (e.g. updates on legal developments, legislative changes).
  • Assist with case intake, evaluation, and maintaining firm standards of client care.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Illinois.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience of litigation, specifically in workers’ compensation claims. Experience appearing before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own docket, prioritize, and multi‑task.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, injury evaluation, and vocational rehabilitation related to work injuries.
  • Comfortable negotiating with insurance carriers / defense counsel, and with taking cases to hearing when needed.
  • Ability to handle a mix of straightforward and complex cases.
