Job Summary
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing construction materials, equipment, and subcontracted services to support project operations. This role ensures materials are procured at competitive pricing, meet project specifications, and are delivered on schedule to maintain construction timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Review project plans, specifications, and material take-offs to determine purchasing needs
Solicit and compare vendor and subcontractor quotes
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules
Issue and manage purchase orders and subcontracts
Coordinate material deliveries with project managers and superintendents
Track and resolve shipping, shortages, or quality issues
Maintain vendor relationships and evaluate supplier performance
Monitor material cost trends and identify cost-saving opportunities
Ensure compliance with contract requirements and company policies
Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation
Required Qualifications
High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred
2+ years of purchasing experience in construction or building materials
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction accounting/ERP software
Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontract scopes
Excellent organizational and time-management skill
