Job Description

We are partnered with a reputable Engineering firm in the Chicago metro that's seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our growing roadway design team in the Chicago metro area. The ideal candidate will have experience in roadway design, transportation planning, and project delivery for IDOT, CDOT, Tollway, and local municipal projects.

You’ll work collaboratively with a talented group of engineers and planners on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects—from preliminary engineering and geometric studies to final design and construction documentation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop roadway design plans, alignments, cross sections, and grading using MicroStation and/or OpenRoads

  • Prepare contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E packages)

  • Support project managers with technical analysis, report preparation, and client coordination

  • Assist in geometric design, drainage design, traffic control, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans

  • Perform quantity calculations and review design deliverables for quality assurance

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in project meetings


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois
  • 5+ years of experience in roadway design

  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, and/or Civil 3D

  • Familiarity with IDOT and local agency design standards and procedures

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with IDOT Phase I and Phase II design projects

  • Knowledge of stormwater, traffic, or multimodal design principles
