Project Director / Project Executive – Capital EPC Projects

Position Overview
The Project Director / Project Executive provides executive leadership and overall direction for major industrial capital EPC projects. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of all project phases from initiation through turnover. The Project Director oversees Safety, Quality, Planning, Scheduling, Budget, Contract Management, Risk Mitigation, and Construction Execution while maintaining strong alignment between project teams, corporate leadership, and client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide overall leadership to the project organization and ensure alignment with company goals, client expectations, and contractual obligations.
Establish and communicate project vision, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to project teams and stakeholders.
Safety Culture
Champion a strong safety culture across all aspects of the project.
Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality Assurance
Direct the implementation of project quality programs covering design, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning.
Oversee inspections, audits, quality hold points, and final acceptance protocols.
Planning & Execution
Approve and oversee project execution plans, construction schedules, and resource allocation strategies.
Monitor critical path activities and drive timely decisions to maintain project schedule and productivity.
Financial Management
Maintain overall responsibility for project financial performance including cost control, forecasting, change management, and reporting.
Ensure accurate financial reporting and identification of potential project risks or exposures.
Contracts & Commercial Management
Oversee negotiation, execution, and administration of major contracts and subcontracts.
Support dispute resolution, claim mitigation, and protection of the company’s commercial interests.
Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary point of contact with clients, corporate leadership, and external partners.
Maintain transparent communication and foster strong long-term relationships.
Change & Risk Management
Lead formal change management processes and ensure scope, cost, and schedule impacts are evaluated and approved.
Identify and mitigate project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Development
Build, lead, and mentor high-performing project teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning disciplines.
Promote collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
Reporting & Governance
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of project performance, forecasting, and key metrics to company leadership and clients.
Commitment
Maintain a strong presence on project sites and support project needs, including travel and extended hours when required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
Master’s degree or PMP certification preferred.
Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience managing large-scale industrial or EPC projects, typically exceeding $500M total installed cost.
Proven experience delivering projects in steel, aluminum, mining, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industrial sectors.
Strong knowledge of EPC project delivery models, contracting strategies, and project controls.
Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership and clients.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, Procore, and enterprise project management or financial reporting systems.
