Job Title: Commercial Underwriting Counsel

Location: Remote (Florida-based) – Must reside in Florida and be able to commute occasionally to the Orlando/Maitland office for collaboration. 

Salary Range: $150K - $170K + Significant Bonus based on State of Florida Agency annual revenue

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriting Counsel to join our Florida team. This role focuses on providing exceptional customer service, making sound underwriting decisions, and assessing risk for the company. The ideal candidate will handle high-dollar commercial transactions, respond to a high volume of underwriting inquiries, and collaborate with title examiners and Florida title agents. Additionally, this position offers opportunities to lead training seminars and webinars while engaging directly with agents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial underwriting counsel for complex, high-value transactions.
  • Analyze and assess title risks, underwriting issues, and regulatory concerns.
  • Assist agents and title examiners by delivering timely, practical underwriting solutions.
  • Handle large commercial transactions, including underwriting for condominium developments and evaluating construction lien risks.
  • Present training seminars and webinars to educate agents and company staff on underwriting best practices.
  • Collaborate with other Underwriting Counsel to maintain underwriting consistency and accuracy.
  • Maintain compliance with Florida state regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a commercial underwriting attorney or equivalent.
  • Licensed to practice law in Florida or eligible to register as Authorized House Counsel with the Florida Bar within 90 days of employment.
  • Extensive experience in commercial real estate transactions and title underwriting.
  • Preferred experience with national commercial services or a national business unit.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to assess risk, and provide practical underwriting solutions.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with title agents.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
