Job Title: Structural Steel Estimating Manager

Job Summary:
The Structural Steel Estimating Manager will lead the estimating department, overseeing the preparation of accurate and competitive bids for structural steel construction projects. With a focus on steel structures, this role requires strong leadership to guide a team of estimators while ensuring estimates align with project scope, client expectations, and company profitability goals. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of experience leading bids and estimates for steel construction projects, combining technical expertise with strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and mentor a team of estimators, providing direction and training to ensure high-quality bid preparation.
• Oversee the development of detailed cost estimates for structural steel projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure accurate takeoffs and pricing for fabrication and erection.
• Lead the bidding process from initial inquiry to submission, coordinating with sales, engineering, and project management teams.
• Analyze historical data, market trends, and vendor pricing to refine estimating processes and improve bid competitiveness.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to clarify scope, address questions, and refine estimates as needed.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and potential risks during the estimating phase to optimize project outcomes.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of cost information and supplier contacts for efficient bid preparation.
• Report on estimating performance metrics and provide insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience leading bids and estimates for structural steel construction projects.
• Proven track record of managing successful estimates for steel fabrication and erection
• Strong leadership skills with experience supervising or mentoring a team of estimators.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Tekla, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to interpret complex construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Deep understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, erection methods, and cost drivers.
• Excellent analytical skills to assess project risks and develop competitive pricing strategies.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
