Job Title: Structural Steel Estimator

Job Summary:
The Structural Steel Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for structural steel construction projects. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical skills, and industry knowledge to assess project requirements and deliver competitive bids. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure estimates reflect the scope, materials, and labor needed for successful steel fabrication and erection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop precise cost estimates.
  • Perform material takeoffs for structural steel components, including beams, columns, and connections.
  • Calculate labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs based on project scope and timelines.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to obtain current pricing for steel materials and services.
  • Prepare bid proposals, ensuring all estimates are comprehensive, competitive, and submitted on time.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks during the estimating process.
  • Assist in scope reviews with project teams to clarify requirements and refine estimates as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing data, and historical costs for future reference.
  • Support project handoff by providing detailed estimate breakdowns to execution teams.
  • Stay informed on market trends, steel prices, and industry standards to enhance estimate accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction estimating, preferably with a focus on structural steel projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Detail-oriented with solid analytical skills to produce precise and reliable estimates.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and external contacts.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of estimating experience in structural steel or related construction fields.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., AISC) and steel construction methods.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software for drawing analysis.
