Assistant Superintendent 

The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in overseeing daily field operations on construction projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within quality standards, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. The Assistant Superintendent works closely with subcontractors, field crews, inspectors, and project management staff.

Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations

  • Assist in supervising daily construction activities and subcontractor performance.

  • Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, and schedule.

  • Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, and equipment usage.

  • Monitor workforce productivity and quality of workmanship.

Schedule Management

  • Support implementation of the project schedule and short-term look-ahead schedules.

  • Coordinate sequencing of trades to avoid conflicts and delays.

  • Assist in tracking milestones and reporting schedule updates.

Safety Management

  • Enforce company safety policies and promote a strong safety culture.

  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

  • Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and site inspections.

  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions.

Quality Control

  • Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with project specifications.

  • Assist with inspections and coordinate with local building officials.

  • Track and resolve punch list items.

  • Ensure proper documentation of field changes.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily reports, site logs, and progress photos.

  • Assist in managing RFIs, submittals, and field documentation using systems such as Procore or PlanGrid.

  • Communicate field updates to the Project Manager and Superintendent.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Assist with subcontractor scheduling and coordination.

  • Verify subcontractor compliance with contract documents.

  • Support inspections and approvals prior to payment processing.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.

  • 2–5 years of construction field experience (commercial, residential, industrial, or heavy civil).

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and safety standards.

  • Proficiency with construction management software and scheduling tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience managing subcontractors and multiple trades.

  • Knowledge of local building codes and inspection processes.

  • Familiarity with scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
