Job Description

A growing financial institution is seeking an experienced Small Business Banking Relationship Manager to join its Grand Rapids team. This role is ideal for a banker with strong credit skills and a passion for developing relationships with small business clients. You’ll be responsible for acquiring, retaining, and expanding loan, deposit, and treasury relationships while working in a supportive, community-focused banking culture.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of small business clients (generally under $5M in revenue).

  • Drive results through new business development, cross-sales, and client retention.

  • Structure and underwrite credit requests, partnering with analysts to ensure accurate and timely completion of credit packages.

  • Execute portfolio management responsibilities, including renewals, monitoring, and ongoing client support.

  • Build referral partnerships with internal colleagues and external centers of influence.

  • Participate in business development activities, community events, and networking functions.

  • Support organizational goals around loan growth, deposit growth, fee income, and CRA objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field.

  • Completion of formal bank credit training preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of combined credit and lending experience.

  • Proven track record in B2B, small business banking, or consultative sales within financial services.

  • Strong credit analysis skills with ability to structure and manage lending relationships.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
