Experience Level: 3+ Years
We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator with experience in structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals to support our preconstruction and bidding efforts. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication and installation projects, analyzing drawings and specifications, and working closely with project management, detailing, and fabrication teams to develop competitive and profitable bids.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of steel scopes, material takeoffs, and construction documents, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects
Perform quantity takeoffs from architectural and structural drawings
Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
Develop pricing for materials, labor, equipment, and fabrication costs
Identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities
Participate in bid reviews and handoffs to project management
Maintain accurate estimating databases and historical cost data
Communicate with GCs, vendors, and internal teams throughout the bid process
3+ years of experience as an estimator in structural steel and/or misc metals
Strong ability to read and interpret construction and shop drawings
Solid understanding of fabrication and erection scopes
Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost modeling
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and estimating software
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with AISC standards preferred
Experience estimating commercial or industrial steel projects
Background working for a steel fabricator or miscellaneous metals contractor
