Commercial Construction Estimator
Position Overview:
A well-established and continually growing general contractor in the Chicago area is seeking a skilled Commercial Construction Estimator to join its preconstruction team. This is a key role responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects across diverse sectors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in an environment where collaboration and precision are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects from concept through final bid
Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and scopes of work
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing
Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients during the preconstruction phase
Develop and maintain unit cost databases and historical cost records
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering alternatives
Assist in bid presentations and proposals
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience as a construction estimator, preferably in commercial, multifamily or light-industrial construction
Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, Procore, etc.)
Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specs
Solid understanding of construction means and methods, materials, and local codes
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
