Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter 

Location: Houston Texas

SBA Experience preferred

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter to support a growing community bank platform. This role will partner closely with C&I and CRE lenders to analyze, structure, and underwrite complex commercial credit transactions while maintaining strong credit quality and regulatory compliance standards.

This position is ideal for a credit professional who thrives in a relationship-driven, collaborative banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite C&I, CRE, Owner-Occupied RE, SBA, and construction loans

  • Prepare detailed credit memorandums including cash flow analysis, global debt service, collateral evaluation, and risk rating assignments

  • Assess borrower financial statements, tax returns, borrowing base certificates, and guarantor support

  • Structure credit facilities consistent with bank policy, regulatory guidance, and market conditions

  • Partner with Relationship Managers to structure and negotiate loan terms

  • Present credit recommendations to loan committee and senior management

  • Ensure adherence to internal loan policy, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Monitor covenant compliance and assist with annual reviews and renewals

  • Mentor junior credit analysts and support credit training initiatives

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience in a community or regional bank environment

  • Strong background in CRE and C&I underwriting (multi-entity and global cash flow required)

  • Experience with loan participations and complex credit structures preferred

  • Formal credit training strongly preferred

  • Strong understanding of regulatory expectations and risk rating systems

  • Proficiency in financial spreading systems (Abrigo/Sageworks, Moody’s, or similar)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting lenders in a production-driven environment

  • Exposure to criticized/classified asset management

  • Strong communication skills with ability to articulate credit decisions clearly
