Job Responsibilities for a Plumbing Estimator

  • Analyze data to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Perform accurate plumbing quantity takeoffs (piping, fittings, valves, specialties, fixtures, insulation, supports, equipment connections, etc.) 
  • Review proposals to find the most cost-efficient way to complete projects for bidding.
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, construction superintendents, and engineers to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Review bid documents (drawings, specifications, addenda, scopes, and schedules) to understand project requirements and identify risks, conflicts, or missing information.
  • Prepare proposals, finalize estimates for prospective projects.
  • Site visits (as needed).

Qualifications for a Plumbing Estimator

  • 3 to 10+ years’ experience as a Plumbing Estimator
  • Experience with estimating software - Quote Express or similar.
  • Ability to support design-assist, negotiated, and/or plan-and-spec bidding.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must be able to complete advanced mathematical functions.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills.
