Senior Estimator – Bridge Fabrication
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our bridge fabrication team. This individual will lead the preparation of accurate, competitive bids for complex structural steel bridge fabrication projects. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of estimating experience within the bridge fabrication or heavy civil steel industry and possess a strong understanding of fabrication methods, labor production, material pricing, and project strategy.
This is a senior individual contributor role with the opportunity to grow into a leadership position within the estimating department.
Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating process for complex structural steel bridge fabrication projects.
- Review RFPs, plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop complete and competitive bids.
- Prepare accurate material takeoffs, labor estimates, equipment costs, subcontractor pricing, freight, and indirect costs.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Analyze AWS, AISC, AREMA, and DOT specifications to ensure compliance.
- Develop bid strategies to maximize competitiveness while maintaining profitability.
- Prepare pricing for change orders and additional work.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, purchasing, and project management throughout the bidding process.
- Develop proposal schedules and assist with project planning.
- Mentor junior estimators and provide technical guidance on estimating best practices.
- Support the Chief Estimator and lead bid efforts as needed.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of estimating experience in structural steel bridge fabrication, heavy civil, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and production methods.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience with AWS welding symbols, AISC, AREMA, and DOT standards.
- Strong understanding of labor production rates, fabrication sequencing, and cost analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project, and CPM scheduling.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple high-value bids while meeting deadlines.
