Overview: A leading regional law firm with a strong footprint in the Pacific Northwest is seeking a Land Use & Zoning Attorney with 4 to 7 years of experience to join its Portland office. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile development, infrastructure, and environmental projects throughout Oregon.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise private and public clients on land use, zoning, permitting, and compliance with local and state regulations, including Oregon’s land use planning laws.
Represent clients in proceedings before city councils, planning commissions, land use hearings officers, and state agencies such as the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA).
Assist in obtaining site development approvals, variances, comprehensive plan amendments, and conditional use permits.
Conduct legal due diligence and risk analysis on real estate transactions and infrastructure projects.
Draft and negotiate development agreements, easements, and other land use-related documents.
Collaborate with attorneys in real estate, environmental, litigation, and public law practices.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
4–7 years of experience in land use, zoning, and permitting law.
A strong understanding of Oregon’s Statewide Planning Goals, Metro policies, and local comprehensive plans and zoning codes.
Demonstrated experience navigating LUBA appeals or administrative land use litigation (preferred).
Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
Confidence managing client relationships and regulatory interactions.
Strong academic credentials and a commitment to professional excellence.
