A highly respected and well-established mechanical contractor in Northern California is seeking a Director or Vice President of Engineering to lead its in-house design operations. Known for delivering technically complex HVAC and plumbing solutions across commercial, institutional, and life science markets, this firm is poised for continued growth and innovation.
This is a strategic leadership role with oversight of multidisciplinary engineering teams, processes, and project execution. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven people leadership, and a strong background in design-build delivery.
Oversee all engineering operations, including mechanical and plumbing design, drafting, and coordination
Set and implement design standards, quality control processes, and project delivery strategies
Provide executive-level oversight on large, high-profile projects from concept through construction
Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams across multiple office locations
Collaborate with preconstruction, project management, and field operations to ensure alignment and constructability
Serve as the technical authority and decision-maker for complex design challenges
Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to long-term strategic planning
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical system design and engineering leadership, preferably in a design-build or contractor setting
Proven track record leading multi-discipline engineering teams on large commercial or institutional projects
Expertise in Revit and AutoCAD, with a strong understanding of BIM coordination workflows
Experience working on healthcare, life science, laboratory, or similarly complex building types
Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills
