Job Description

Position Title: CNC Setup Technician

Overview:
We are looking for an experienced CNC Setup Technician to become a key part of our precision manufacturing operations. This position focuses on preparing, configuring, and optimizing CNC machines for efficient, high-quality production. The right candidate will be detail-oriented, technically skilled, and comfortable working with a range of CNC equipment and tooling.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical Interpretation

  • Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to understand all part requirements.

  • Identify necessary dimensions, tolerances, and special features before setup.

Machine Preparation & Setup

  • Install and secure appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices.

  • Set work offsets, tool lengths, and machine parameters for speed, feed, and depth of cut.

  • Verify machine calibration and alignment prior to production.

Quality Verification

  • Perform test cuts or dry runs to confirm correct setup and program accuracy.

  • Inspect initial parts to validate that all specifications and tolerances are met.

Team Support & Training

  • Assist and train machine operators in proper setup procedures and production techniques.

  • Share best practices for tool usage, material handling, and in-process inspections.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct preventive maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and safety checks.

  • Diagnose and resolve setup or operational issues as they arise.

Safety & Quality Compliance

  • Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to maintain production standards.

  • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.

Documentation

  • Record setup details, adjustments, and process notes for future reference.

  • Maintain accurate records of tooling, fixtures, and measurement devices.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.

  • Proven experience setting up CNC machinery (Mori Seiki, Fadal, Star, Flow, Amada, and Mitsubishi machines preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of tooling selection, setup procedures, and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Ability to read complex prints and technical instructions.

  • Familiarity with CNC programming is a plus.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Work Conditions:

  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to moving equipment and moderate noise levels.

  • Frequent standing, walking, and handling of materials or tools.

  • Must be able to visually inspect precision parts and fine details.
