Yard Manager – Building Materials Operations

Job Summary for Yard Manager: Our client is looking for a reliable and experienced Yard Manager to oversee all day-to-day operations at a building materials location. This hands-on leadership role requires someone who can operate a forklift, manage incoming and outgoing freight, handle dispatch coordination, and stay organized with paperwork and computer systems. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, knowledge of building materials, and a proven ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities for Yard Manager:

  • Operate forklifts to build customer loads, unload incoming freight, and organize yard inventory
  • Dispatch and coordinate outgoing deliveries, ensuring orders are accurate, complete, and on time
  • Supervise, train, and schedule yard staff to ensure efficient, safe, and productive operations
  • Maintain accurate inventory through proper paperwork handling and data entry into computer systems
  • Collaborate with inside sales, dispatch, and management to fulfill customer needs and resolve issues
  • Ensure safety procedures and OSHA guidelines are followed at all times
  • Keep the yard clean, organized, and operating efficiently
  • Perform cycle counts, assist with stock rotation, and maintain proper material storage
  • Provide excellent customer service when assisting will-call customers and drivers

Qualifications for Yard Manager:

  • Forklift experience required (certification preferred)
  • Strong skills in paperwork processing, computer use, and basic inventory systems
  • Prior experience in building materials environment (preferred)
  • Experience dispatching deliveries and working with drivers/logistics teams
  • Effective communicator with strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather conditions
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade or vocational training a plus
