Contract Title Attorney
A well-established, small oil and gas law firm based in Texas is actively seeking experienced Title Attorneys for a contract (Of-Counsel) role. We are managing a significant increase in caseload volume due to new client needs and require independent, skilled attorneys to manage 100% title work, primarily for assets in the South Texas/Eagleford Shale and potentially Ohio.
This is a unique opportunity to partner with a thriving firm, set your own billable goals, and maintain a flexible schedule while handling high-quality, specialized title work.
The Opportunity: Independent Title Attorney
- 100% Title Work Focus: Your caseload will consist entirely of drafting complex title opinions, including Drilling, Division Order, and Curative Title Opinions.
- Target Regions: Must have recent and relevant title experience in South Texas/Eagleford Shale. Experience in Ohio is a plus.
- Work Volume Guarantee: We currently have enough work volume available to support at least 30 billable hours per week through Spring 2026.
- Independent Practice: Work is performed on a fully flexible, independent basis, allowing you to manage your own hours and location.
Compensation & Structure (1099 Contract)
This position is structured as an independent contractor (1099) role, offering a highly attractive rate structure:
- Initial Hourly Rate: $112 per hour for the first year of the engagement.
- Rate Increase: The standard hourly rate will increase to $150 per hour for any work extended after the first year.
- Origination Potential: Significant potential for increased income—up to $250+ per hour—for any complex transactional or business development work you originate.
- Term & Continuation: The current guaranteed workload extends through Spring 2026. Future projects and continuation are based on client workload and performance.
- Note: As a 1099 independent contractor, this role does not include employee benefits (health insurance, 401k, PTO).
Qualifications
- Active bar membership in Texas is highly preferred; but a bar membership in any state will work.
- Must have recent, demonstrable experience drafting certified title opinions for oil and gas assets.
- Proven expertise in the South Texas/Eagleford Shale region is essential.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently.
