Project Manager – Heavy Civil / Highway

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and manage heavy civil and highway construction projects, including roadway, infrastructure, and large-scale sitework packages. This role is responsible for overseeing projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring safety, schedule, quality, and financial objectives are achieved.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in DOT and public works projects and is comfortable managing complex field operations, subcontractors, and project financials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage heavy civil projects from award through completion

  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, and cost controls

  • Handle project billing, pay applications, and financial tracking

  • Manage change orders, RFIs, and contract documentation

  • Coordinate with owners, DOT agencies, engineers, and inspectors

  • Lead project meetings and serve as primary point of contact

  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers

  • Track material procurement and jobsite logistics

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications

  • Support project closeout, punch list, and final documentation

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing heavy civil / highway construction projects

  • Strong background in roadway, infrastructure, and sitework

  • DOT project experience strongly preferred

  • Experience with public works and government contracts

  • Strong understanding of project scheduling and cost management

  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management software

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

  • Experience with state DOT, municipal, or federal infrastructure projects

  • Familiarity with CPM scheduling and project controls systems
