Detailing Manager (Hybrid)

Location: Mid-Atlantic Region (Hybrid – Remote + In-Office Days)

About the Company

We are a rapidly growing steel fabrication and erection company based in the Mid-Atlantic, specializing in large-scale commercial projects ranging from $5M to $8M. While maintaining a tight-knit team of 40–50 employees, we’ve recently expanded our 25,000 sq ft fabrication facility and are investing heavily in technology, quality, and people.

As part of our continued growth, we’re seeking a Detailing Manager to lead our drafting team and oversee project detailing workflows.


Position Summary

The Detailing Manager will oversee the production and coordination of structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings using Tekla Structures and AutoCAD. This leadership role is responsible for maintaining quality, consistency, and schedule adherence across multiple projects, while mentoring and managing in-house and external detailers.

This is a hybrid position, with the flexibility to work remotely while being on-site a few days per week for collaboration and coordination with project managers, fabrication leads, and other stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the detailing team across multiple active projects

  • Oversee Tekla and AutoCAD modeling, checking, and drawing production

  • Review and approve shop drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements

  • Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and fabricators

  • Manage schedules and deliverables to meet project deadlines

  • Maintain and enforce detailing standards and best practices

  • Train and support junior detailers and subcontracted teams

  • Ensure efficient RFI management and document control throughout detailing phases


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in steel detailing (structural and misc. metals)

  • Proficient in Tekla Structures and AutoCAD

  • Previous leadership or management experience highly preferred

  • Strong understanding of fabrication and erection processes

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment
