Multifamily Truss Design Manager

Summary:

We are a growing floors and roofs truss company in the manufacturing industry, providing high-quality trusses, lumber, and box springs, along with responsive and exceptional customer service. Skilled and educated, the Truss Design Manager works full-time hours in the office, collaborating with sales, dispatch, estimating, and production teams to ensure designs are successful and properly delivered to customers. This position reports to the President/CEO.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Sales Manager to ensure that design and estimating meet the sales needs of the company.
  • Field sales and customer calls regarding the quality and compatibility of trusses in the field and handle engineering issues.
  • Communicate with the Truss Production Manager to ensure designs are production-friendly and produced in a timely manner to support efficient manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with the Shipping/Dispatch Department to maximize truck loads and minimize the need for override permits, while maintaining excellent quality to reduce returns and handling damage.
  • Collaborate with design and production software providers to ensure efficiency across departments.
  • Train and coach designers to optimize material and labor savings through efficient truss designs.
  • Maintain internal and external design production to meet sales and production requirements.
  • Oversee and communicate with the Design Department, managing five internal Designers, an external design company, a Design Quality Analyst/IT Administrator, and two Administrators supporting design-to-production processes.
  • Manage workflow and communication within the department; monitor performance, oversee daily work commitments, and ensure compliance with quality and quantity standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Leadership Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience managing truss design projects preferred.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflicts.
  • Leadership skills consistent with company culture, including delivering clear and consistent feedback.
  • Strong deadline management abilities.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence clearly and articulately.
  • Mathematical skills involving whole numbers, fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • MiTek software experience is required.
  • Superior communication skills to deliver messages effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to ensure accurate and efficient designs with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to evaluate individual and team design performance.
  • Collaboration skills to ensure customer project success.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Four-year degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • At least 5 years of truss design experience and 2 years of design management experience; or 7 years of combined education and experience.
