Job Title: Mechanical Project Engineer – Capital Projects & Extrusion Systems
Location: Waco, TX
Overview:
A leading U.S. plastics manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead extrusion-focused capital projects at its recently expanded 400,000 sq. ft. facility in Waco, TX. This is an opportunity to drive high-impact improvements in material handling, tooling, automation, and plant infrastructure.

What You’ll Do:
Lead extrusion capital projects (tooling, line conversions, and new system installs)
Oversee design, install, and commissioning of critical systems (chillers, compressors, coiling/strapping automation)
Manage tooling replacement and improvement programs (extrusion tooling, screws, barrels, blueprints)
Drive projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency
Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and implement sustainable improvements
Support long-term growth initiatives, including new production lines and in-house component manufacturing
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
Extrusion experience (plastics, rubber, or injection molding) is a must
7+ years in manufacturing engineering, project engineering, or related role
Strong background in capital projects, process improvement, and equipment commissioning
Hands-on floor presence with proven troubleshooting and project management skills
