Key Responsibilities Certified Payroll Accountant

  • Will be responsible for managing all certified payroll functions for union projects while also supporting broader accounting operations. This is a hands-on role for a Certified Payroll Accountant who is detail-oriented, reliable, and well-versed in the complexities of commercial construction payroll compliance
  • Serve as the primary Certified Payroll Accountant responsible for preparing and submitting accurate certified payroll reports
  • Maintain all required union payroll documentation, wage classifications, and fringe benefit reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and municipal certified payroll requirements
  • Manage AP and AR functions, including invoicing, vendor payments, lien waivers, and reconciliations
  • Support job cost tracking and collaborate closely with project managers and operations
  • Assist with month-end close, audits, and financial reporting
  • Provide continuous support as the Certified Payroll Accountant to improve accounting workflows and processes
  • Contribute to a team atmosphere built on communication, trust, and shared accountability

Qualifications

  • 5–15 years of commercial construction accounting experience
  • Proven experience as a Certified Payroll Accountant within a union environment
  • Strong knowledge of prevailing wage laws, union reporting, and certified payroll compliance
  • Experience with AP/AR, billing, job costing, and reconciliations
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software (Foundation, Sage, Viewpoint, etc.) preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-focused mindset
