Commercial Construction Assistant Controller in Scottsdale

Job Description

We are an established and growing commercial General Contractor seeking a high-level Assistant Controller to support and help lead our accounting operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands construction accounting inside and out.

Sage 300 (CRE) and Procore experience are required. Candidates without direct experience in both systems will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Controller in daily accounting operations

  • Oversee job cost accounting and WIP reporting

  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes

  • Prepare and review financial statements

  • Monitor percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

  • Oversee AP, AR, payroll, retainage, and subcontract billing

  • Ensure accuracy of project financial reporting in Sage 300 and Procore

  • Assist with audits and maintain strong internal controls

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience in commercial construction

  • Advanced proficiency in Sage 300 (Construction & Real Estate)

  • Strong working knowledge of Procore financial tools

  • Experience with WIP schedules and job cost reporting

  • Understanding of retainage, subcontract billing, and lien processes

  • Experience supporting or leading month-end close

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • CPA or CPA-track a plus

  • Experience in a General Contractor environment
