We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to join our team and play a key role in preparing competitive, accurate estimates for civil construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong experience with takeoffs, bidding, subcontractor solicitation, cost analysis, and project pricing, along with a solid understanding of civil construction methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates and bids for civil construction projects from conceptual design through final bid.
- Review project plans, specifications, bid documents, and scopes of work.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and material calculations.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and vendor pricing.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, and potential cost impacts.
- Prepare competitive and profitable bid proposals.
- Analyze historical project costs and production data to improve estimating accuracy.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors during the estimating process.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs.
- Maintain organized estimating files, bid documentation, and cost databases.
- Assist with value engineering and alternative construction approaches.
- Support project handoff from estimating to operations.
- Stay current on material costs, labor rates, market conditions, and construction trends.
Ideal Project Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly valuable:
- Earthwork and site development
- Demolition
- Excavation and grading
- Utilities and underground infrastructure
- Stormwater and drainage
- Roads and paving
- Water and wastewater
- Erosion and sediment control
- Concrete and structural work
- Public and municipal construction
- Commercial site development
Qualifications
- 3+ years of civil construction estimating experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of civil construction means, methods, and sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams.
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not always required.
