Tax Manager in Farmington

Date Posted: 02 September 2026

Job Snapshot

Job Description

Small boutique CPA firm looking for their next Equity Partner.  They need a tax manager who wants to become their next partner.

This is a smaller firm – just 10 people total, 7 accountants and 3 support staff. They handle a steady mix of closely held businesses, partnerships, and individual clients. They like their collaborative “family feel” culture: everyone works hard during busy season, but there’s no drama, no overwork, and a genuine respect for balance and flexibility. They need someone who will fit well with that culture.

The team works fully onsite, with flex scheduling and some remote work available once acclimated. They are looking for a CPA or near-CPA who wants to move into a partnership role.

Tax Manager:
• CPA (or nearly complete) required
• M.S. in Taxation preferred
• 15+ years of experience in public accounting
• Strong background in business, partnership, and individual tax
• Ability to prepare and review complex returns
• Some experience assisting clients with financial statements
• Consistent and reliable work ethic during tax season (~55 hrs./week)
• Collaborative, steady, and personable demeanor – “no ego” team player
• Leadership potential and genuine interest in firm ownership

Firm Overview:
• Location: Farmington, CT (Onsite)
• Size: 3 partners (1 PT), 7 accountants, 3 support staff
• Focus: Closely held businesses, partnerships, and individual tax work
• Software: QuickBooks, Ultra Tax, ProSystem FX, CCH
• Environment: Collaborative, transparent, and flexible: “we all pitch in and treat each other fairly”

Compensation & Benefits:
• $140K–$175K+ base, negotiable higher for the right person (up to $200k)
• 100% paid employee health insurance (50% discounted family coverage)
• 401(k) with firm contribution
• CPE allowance, 3 weeks’ vacation, 5 sick days, paid holidays
• Flex time, life insurance, long-term disability, Summer Fridays
• Clear path to equity partnership within 2 years

Culture Notes:
The partners describe their firm as “no frills, but no drama and no overwork.” They pride themselves on being approachable, fair, and genuinely invested in their staff’s growth and well-being. They want someone who can grow into a leadership role, work collaboratively, and carry that same philosophy forward as a future partner.
