About the Opportunity
A well-established and highly successful Chicago-based personal injury and workers' compensation law firm is seeking a dedicated Workers' Compensation Associate Attorney to join its plaintiff-side practice. The firm is known for its strong advocacy on behalf of injured workers, a collaborative team environment, and a robust caseload. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a mid-level attorney to take meaningful ownership of files, gain extensive hearing experience, and maximize their earning potential through a highly competitive fee-sharing or bonus structure.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a comprehensive caseload of plaintiff-side workers' compensation claims from initial client intake through resolution or hearing.
Draft motions, petitions, settlement contracts, and trial briefs.
Conduct and defend depositions of medical experts, treating physicians, and employer representatives.
Represent injured workers at status calls, pre-trial conferences, and 19(b) expedited hearings before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC).
Maintain regular, empathetic communication with clients to guide them through the litigation and medical treatment processes.
Negotiate favorable lump-sum settlements with insurance defense counsel and adjusters.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 3 or more years of dedicated experience handling workers' compensation cases (plaintiff-side preferred; defense-side experience looking to transition will be considered).
Education: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
Licensure: Active member in good standing with the Illinois State Bar (ARDC).
Skills: * Strong familiarity with the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act and IWCC procedures.
Proven experience analyzing medical records and deposing medical experts.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and client-management skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume practice environment.
