Safety Project Engineer in Chicago

Job Description

The Safety Coordinator/Permit Expediter will play a key role in maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring timely approvals from city agencies. This position requires a balance of jobsite presence and office coordination, with an emphasis on compliance, documentation, and communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of construction safety coordination and/or permit expediting experience.
• Prior experience with excavation, demolition, or earthwork strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and Chicago permitting requirements.
• OSHA 30 certification
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to sites around Chicago.

 Responsibilities:

• Lead safety efforts across multiple excavation and demolition projects.
• Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and toolbox talks to ensure OSHA compliance.
• Maintain safety documentation, reports, and training records.
• Manage and expedite permits required through the City of Chicago for excavation, demolition, and related work.
• Serve as liaison with city departments, utilities, and regulatory agencies.
• Support project managers and field leadership to maintain schedules and compliance.
