Job Description

A Commercial Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations on large-scale commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. This role manages daily jobsite activities, subcontractor coordination, safety compliance, quality control, scheduling, and overall project execution to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Typical projects may include:

  • Ground-up commercial buildings
  • Multifamily podium projects
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Higher education campuses
  • Industrial and distribution centers
  • Mission critical/data centers
  • Tenant improvement (TI) projects
  • Projects ranging from $20M–$150M+ in value

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day field operations for commercial construction projects.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and field personnel.
  • Maintain project schedules and short-interval look-ahead schedules.
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards across the jobsite.
  • Conduct subcontractor coordination meetings and site walks.
  • Monitor quality control and ensure work complies with plans/specifications.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and ownership teams.
  • Manage site logistics, manpower planning, and sequencing of work.
  • Lead inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities.
  • Mentor Assistant Superintendents and field staff.
  • Maintain daily reports and project documentation using software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, CMiC, or PlanGrid.

Qualifications

  • 5–15+ years of commercial construction experience with a General Contractor.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale ground-up commercial projects.
  • Experience on projects valued at $20M–$100M+ preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial building systems including structural, architectural, MEP, and site work.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Ability to lead large subcontractor teams and maintain project schedules.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office.
