Job Description

A growing and well-established Engineering firm in Columbia, SC is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Roadway Design Engineer with a Professional Engineering license and at least 5 years of relevant experience to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead the design and development of transportation projects focused on roadway infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

This position offers the ability to rapidly advance into a Transportation Department Manager role, should that be a career path you’re interested in!

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects, including highways, arterials, intersections, and related facilities.
  • Prepare detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Perform traffic analysis, geometric design, and stormwater management integration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, surveyors, and construction managers.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation standards and regulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in SC
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in transportation (specifically roadway design) engineering.
  • Proficiency with design software such as Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO design standards, MUTCD guidelines, and stormwater regulations.
  • Must have experience working with the SCDOT
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
