Job Description

🏗️ Project Engineer: Commercial Construction

Salary: Up to $80,000 + Comprehensive Benefits Package

Confidential Opportunity with a Northeast Ohio Leader

We are partnering with a highly respected, multi-generational Commercial Construction Firm with a 50-year history of building Cleveland’s most notable projects. Known for our commitment to craftsmanship and integrity, we specialize in diverse sectors including complex historic restorations, commercial office, healthcare, and multi-family housing.

If you are a driven Project Engineer looking for a stable, long-term career where all projects are local to the Northeast Ohio region, this is an unmatched opportunity. We offer an excellent compensation structure, great benefits, and a culture that values expertise and work/life balance.

The Role: Project Engineer

The Project Engineer serves as the essential communication link between the Project Manager, Superintendent, design team, and subcontractors. You will be instrumental in managing the technical documentation and workflows necessary to keep complex commercial projects moving efficiently and accurately from pre-construction through closeout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Control: Own the Request for Information (RFI) and Submittal process, ensuring timely and accurate distribution, tracking, and closeout of all documentation.

  • Scheduling & Logistics: Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in developing, updating, and monitoring the master construction schedule and look-ahead plans.

  • Cost Management: Support the Project Manager with cost control, quantity take-offs, bid package preparation, drafting subcontracts/purchase orders, and processing change orders.

  • Field Support: Conduct regular site walks with the Superintendent to verify that work is installed in compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.

  • Coordination: Prepare agendas, attend key meetings (OAC, subcontractor meetings), and accurately document and distribute meeting minutes.

  • Closeout: Assemble and manage all project closeout documentation, including O&M manuals, warranties, and as-built drawings.

Qualifications & Compensation

What You Will Bring

  • 1-5 years of experience in a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager role, specifically within Commercial Construction (institutional, healthcare, mixed-use, or historic restoration experience is highly valued).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • Strong technical proficiency in interpreting complex architectural drawings and specifications.

  • Proficiency with modern construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar).

Rewards

  • Competitive Salary: Up to $80,000 (commensurate with experience).

  • Local Work: Enjoy excellent work/life balance with minimal required travel—all projects are within the Greater Cleveland/Northeast Ohio area.

  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with company match, and generous Paid Time Off (PTO).
