Job Description: Chief Credit Officer (CCO)

The Chief Credit Officer (CCO) is a senior executive responsible for leading the credit strategy and risk management framework of the institution. This role oversees the credit approval process, monitors portfolio performance, ensures sound underwriting standards, and maintains regulatory compliance. The CCO partners with key business units, including lending, capital markets, and treasury, to balance risk and growth objectives while optimizing profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s credit risk management policies and procedures

  • Lead the underwriting and approval process for all loan types, including commercial, real estate, and specialty finance

  • Oversee credit portfolio performance, including concentration, exposure limits, and risk rating accuracy

  • Monitor economic, industry, and borrower-specific risks to ensure proactive portfolio management

  • Collaborate with pricing teams to ensure appropriate risk-adjusted returns and market competitiveness

  • Engage with capital markets teams to assess loan sales, syndications, and participations

  • Maintain regulatory compliance and prepare for internal/external audits and regulatory examinations

  • Provide strategic leadership in credit policy, loan review, and portfolio stress testing

  • Report to executive management and the board on credit quality, risk exposure, and emerging threats

  • Mentor and lead the credit team, fostering a high-performance culture and ongoing professional development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial credit, portfolio oversight, and credit risk management

  • Deep understanding of capital markets, loan pricing, and regulatory requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior credit role within a bank or financial institution

  • Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
