Job Overview
We are seeking a Commodity Trader to buy, sell, and manage recyclable commodities across regional and national markets. This role is responsible for driving margin through strategic trading, supplier sourcing, price negotiation, and market analysis across materials such as metals, paper, plastics, and other recyclable streams.
This is a commercial, profit-driven role requiring strong negotiation skills, market awareness, and the ability to build and manage supplier and buyer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Buy and sell recyclable commodities to maximize margin and volume.
Source new suppliers and end-market buyers through direct outreach and relationship development.
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms based on market conditions.
Monitor commodity indices, market trends, and supply/demand shifts.
Manage inventory exposure and price risk.
Coordinate with operations, logistics, and finance to ensure smooth execution.
Develop forecasts and trading strategies to support revenue and profitability goals.
Maintain accurate trade documentation and reporting.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in commodity trading, recycling, waste, metals, paper, plastics, or related markets
Proven negotiation and deal-closing ability
Strong understanding of commodity pricing and market dynamics
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
Proficient with CRM, Excel, and trading or inventory systems
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience trading recyclable materials (scrap metals, OCC, plastics, fibers)
Existing supplier or buyer network
Experience working with brokers, mills, processors, or exporters
Background in sales, procurement, or business development within industrial markets
